It has been a dry January and we do need more rain. Dry and very cold at night and mornings.

How cold is cold, lets compare Sacramento with other big western cities. Sacramento winter days are pretty mild and comfortable so lets use only the Low temps in the morning when it is the coldest in Sacramento in the winter as a comparison.

December 2021 - Low Temps Only, not counting the High temp for the day

Sacramento had only six nights between 32F and 35F. Most mornings were in the 40's. One morning was in the 50's.

Every morning, Denver was in the 30's, 20's, 10's or single digits. Not a single morning was in the 40's or 50's, all colder.

Every morning, Salt Lake City was in the 30's, 20's, or 10's. Not a single morning was in the 40's and 50's, all colder.

Portland had twice as many mornings (12 mornings) between 30F and 35F versus Sacramento (6 mornings, none colder than 32F)

It has been a pleasant winter but I pray for much needed rain as January has been quite dry.

I Agree ^^^
January is supposed to be our wettest month, it was flop regarding rain, although I admit I'm starting to like more rainless days considering it is still green and clean.

Sacramento never gets this cold:

Temps in the Single Digits:
Denver 4 days
Sacramento Zero days

Temps in the 10's and Teens:
Denver 4 days
Salt Lake City 4 days
Boise 4 days
Portland Zero days
Sacramento Zero days

Temps in the 20's:
Denver 8 days
Salt Lake City 13 days
Boise 10 days

Portland 4 days
Sacramento Zero days

I agree. Complaints about Northern California weather are almost always from a myopic perspective, where is always a little warmer somewhere else nearby, like Palm Springs. But let's remember that we're in the middle of winter, everyone's enjoying sunshine almost every day, Sacramento has been in the 60s, Redding even in the 70s, and next week, everyone will get in on the 70s.

Meanwhile, it snowed a lot last week in Athens and Jerusalem, Dallas is snowing all day with a high of 25f and a low of 20f, and my brother in NC had nights in the teens and twenties virtually for weeks. The PNW had been cold and wet, they had snow in January too, the Midwest and Northeast have been icy and snowy, and you realize just how mild it is in Sacramento and the rest of our state. But yes, we get "cold" in the evenings too. My neighborhood in SD is 43f this morning and gets into the 30s at night with some frequency. But the daytime is so nice. It's pretty perfect.

Even the magnolia trees have been blooming at Golden Gate Park for the past week or two, spring is almost here.

We did not get enough rain this year and now have a week of record freezing! Yikes! PG&E has jacked up rates too and my heating bill was obscene even though I rarely turn heat on.

Did you forget it's WINTER, STILL

I guess you haven't been out for the last 60 days, when its been in the upper 50's, 60's and 70's.

Regarding "freezing", the temp has not dropped to 32F all winter long, until maybe tonight if we are "lucky".

Even if the temp gets down to 29-32F, it will be for 1/2 hour before it quickly warms up.

Feb 22, 2022, 9:15pm - nighttime

Denver 6F
Kansas City 10F
Salt Lake City 23
Boise 25F
Portland 29F
Seattle 30F

Sacramento 43F

I use electric blanket to save on gas heating bill at night and try to only turn heat on in the freezing mornings for 2-3 hours.
