Indeed was in and out of pool. Glad to have a pool living in Sacramento. I took a dip after work and will get back in before bed since it won’t cool off at night until 1am!!!!!!

Anyone know why Fair Oaks is typically 10 degrees hotter than Sacramento, when they are practically next to each other?

I am claiming no type of expertise here and I am more just spitballing here. My assumption is that closer to vVacaville, the coastal mountains act funnel and so the air mass has to speed up to get through that narrow passage. but as the air moves into the valley, the lack of mountains means that the air mass can sspread out and also slow down. But again, other people here likely know far more about this then me.

I will admitt, I am jealous about your pool this week. Where I live I don't have a pool and if I want to swim, I have to go to the gym, but the pool at the gym just isn't the same as pool in your back yard for just cooling off when its real hot. The late evening jumping in the pool is one of the great things about hot days in Sacramento, your pool gets just the right temperature to swim really comfortably at night.

My best guess is that its more an artifact of where they place the thermometer in Fair Oaks. If it was placed too close to a street or a parking lot or maybe a concrete building, that could throw off the temperatures. But Fair Oaks, especially historic Fair Village and the parts of Fair Oaks near the river has lots of trees, in general, I would imagine that if anything its probably cooler than many other parts of the region because of both the trees and the proximity to the river. When I am riding my bike along the American River Parkway, generally the Parkway itself is often cooler than the surrounding neighborhood both because of the vegitation, the lack of concrete in the area and also just the cooling effect of the river. In the winter, the fog also seems to form first along the parkway and I assume again its for the same reasons.

(Feels like the 70s because of the breeze and dryness)

Fair Oaks is 10 miles further away from the Sacramento Areas Natural Air Conditioner, the California Delta.
Within the Sacramento Area as you go further east and northeast such as Fair Oaks, the Delta/Coastal cooling effect becomes less and less and when you reach the lower foothills (200 ft. to 1,500 ft.) the cooling is the least effective. But, once you get above 1,500 feet on up, the higher elevation allows for cooling (Placerville, Auburn, Grass Valley)

On average, Sacramento, South Sacramento, West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Lodi, North Stockton are THE coolest locales in the Great Central Valley because they are in the direct path of prevailing cool winds from the California Delta/SF Bay.

As the crow flies, the Sacramento Area is the closest to cool coastal air compared to all other locales within the 450 mile long Central Valley.

Sacramento area locales are just north of the California Delta which funnels in very cool air from the coast and San Francisco Bay. The coastal mountains surrounding the Delta are some of the lowest in elevation and they do not block the passage of this natural air conditioner, and the prevailing wind sends the cooling air directly to Sacramento. Also, the northern coast, from as far south as Monterey Bay, San Francisco Bay, on up to Oregon Border is significantly cooler, lasts longer, and pulls in further inland than South Coastal air. (LA, Orange Cnty, SD); so the cool air coming from the NorCal coast has a bigger impact inland.

Sorry for any redundancy in this post.

Yup that’s why I bought a house with a pool even though it meant smaller backyard and bit more maintenance costs. I learned to do chemicals and clean it for less than pay a pool guy to do it. It’s so refreshing and I’m getting in my pool again today. Over 100F here in Carmichael at 5:30pm.

Yep, enjoyed the American River today, did a 2 1/2 hour raft trip. The river has been high and fast this last week. Delta Breeze coming in strong this evening!

Phoenix had 28 days of 100+
Of those 20+ were 105+; and 8 were 110+
