97.7 is owned by Univision just like 98.5 The Beat, so those two stations are not competing. The new Party 97.7 is competing with 94.1 and 96.1. Great! Now we're stuck again with only one modern rock station that sucks and three Top 40 stations when Top 40 is at its worst as far as I can remember.

Take this advice from someone who had the same experience back in the 90s. When you dislike most of the songs in the Top 40, that's a sign that you're getting too old for current music.

LOL, but I honestly think it's bad. Everything sounds like techno and I've never liked that genre.

I just scanned the current Top 40 chart, and recognized exactly *one* song (the SNL one), and a majority of the artists I've never heard of before (Bruno Mars? Kesha? Wiz Khalifa? Pitbull? Nope, I have no idea who they are). While I do listen to modern rock music (e.g. like what you hear on XM43), I'm pretty much completely out of the loop on what is considered "Top 40" these days.

I stopped paying attention to broadcast radio over a decade ago, went to satellite radio, and never looked back. A broader range of choices and NO COMMERCIALS!

Am I the only one sick and tired of the "change format" bs
Why can't they just play better music of whatever format they are playing.

They have the exact same attitude as people that replace their $3000 crappy car,
with another $3000 crappy car hoping that is going to be better.

Hey everybody!!! we have a new car/station!!!

I think it's just a sign that music is just getting terrible period. Especially when you even have many twentysomethings who can't stand the current Top 40 stuff.

Now where is my Soul/R&B station?!

The absolute worst is when you change from 96.1 to 94.1 to hear a different song and they're playing the same one. Now you have this one to switch to to hear the same song at the same time. Dios.

It's called strategy. Univision changed format because the Rock format is dead in SA. The Beat(Univision owned) is taking a beating from 96.1 and 94.1. The launch of Party 97.7 is to steal listeners from both Mix and KTFM. This will make it easier to sell The Beat to advertiser as it pulls ahead of both stations.

Mix 96.1 is #1 in 18-34
94-1 KTFM is #3 in the same demos.

And is the Beat #2? Or what is?

I don't buy that,
how many people in a city like San Antonio would love to listen to something like R&B, keep in mind that R&B covers at least 3 decades.
Why don't we have an R&B station? But we have 4 Spanish stations just in FM (92.9, 94.1, 95.7, 104.1) that play the same thing (I have listened to them)

That's why I don't buy the whole thing about "ratings".
