I wouldn't say its "less douchy", just a different kind of douche. In SoCal, it is very shallow, all about looks/image, etc. In SF, it is more of a pseudo-intellectual vibe (e.g., Which Ivy did you attend, which startup do you work at, etc.)

Nightlife is considerably better in LA. The amount of bars, lounges, clubs, live music venues, and comedy clubs in LA blow SF out of the water. Nevermind the beaches, LoL. What is the median age in Sf? 45? LOL!!!!! SF is too much of a sleepy, workaholic, transplant city, that is filled with oldsters. Good looking people just dont want to be there.

There's plenty of nightlife in North Beach, The Marina, and the Mission District. Just not the Hollywood, Vegas, Miami kind of scene which attracts a lot of trashy people.
