We had a home on Siesta Key for 10 years. Lived there full time and watched how commissioners like Maio lined their pockets from the likes of Ask Gary and others. People on the Key wanted to stay unincorporated and now the price is being paid. Sold the home and never looked back. Worst run government in any place we've ever lived.

I have not been to Siesta Key since we left Palmer Ranch for the boondocks 3 years ago, so I have no idea what's going on up there anymore.

When I go to Lido Key, I see many yard signs saying "stop the house motels" or something like that.

The enormous unsatiable greed and corruption of developers and politicians will eventually destroy everything coastal...its inevitable.

All residents can do is try to slow them down.

I honestly do not know anyone who goes to Siesta Key. Tourists and trash galore.

I went about 5 years ago, tons of loud music, teens/young adults drinking beer in the water, cursing.

Just gross. Never again. Not a family beach by any stretch. If they want to destroy it further, have at it.

Its only like that when school is out. While school is in session, I've always find it almost perfect. Itis a long walk from the carto the water's edge, & there's no natural shade anywhere near the water, so youhave to create your own shade.

That is why I feel Lido Key's beach near the old casino site, & the southern tip of Lido Key inside that park are better. Those spots are bit futher away from me, but I still make the extra effort to go there.

I hope Siesta Key's residents can delay the destruction of their great barrir island, as long as possible.

The Siesta Key community should buy every property that goes up for sale, & then re-sell it to other wanna-be residents who are needing/wanting single family residential.

Sure, a few liars might break through from time to time, but it would slow the developers down a lot.

I like the concept Beach but a few things stand in the way. The county doesn't enforce the renting rules at all. Our next door neighbor had an illegal first floor which he rented consistently all the 10 years we lived there. Was reported numerous times and to this day is still renting. Oh and by the way he has claimed homestead exception all this time. The same goes for the county building inspection department. Nothing enforced. If you want to talk to code enforcement you have to go to the Catholic church on Midnight Pass and look in back under the shade trees. You can't make this stuff up. Worst run county government we've ever encountered.

I've had my issues with code enforcement in other areas I've lived. But your comment about the Catholic Church and the shade trees intrigues me. Can you expand on that? Full disclosure, I haven't been to Siesta Key (other than a quick dinner at Cafe Gabbiano last spring) in years and back then it was heaven on earth. Gather that isn't true anymore.
