Agreed!, I'm prepared to survive: storms, outages, job loss, short-term disability, accidents, disturbances in the force and minor upheaval, total collapse, maybe, maybe not!
I have no plans to run to the hills, sit in a bunker or go to a FEMA camp.
FWIW, even our own Government suggests being prepared for short-term events. It's no different than insurance, firs extinguishers, seat belts or any other backup. Anything that helps a rough spot is good.

(I used to live at about the furthest point you could find from water in Central Texas, on a water delivery system that was a string of "single point of failure" nodes.) Also, because virtually all of my family lives between Ft Smith AR and Knoxville TN, making this location a day's drive closer to them.

You did. But it was an internal report (one agency to another) that escaped. It wasn't meant for public consumption, even though it wasn't protected (they don't care if you read it, but they have no intention of publishing it to the world).

Unfortunately the government should be making these recommendations public but I don't see that as being likely for a few different reasons.
