Rafa is CLEARLY the one to beat going into the Open.
Joker and Lucky Andy know this.
In fact, I believe Rafa has really gotten into their heads with his recent hard-court success ... and will take full advantage of their choke-artist tendencies if/when he faces them in NY.
Heck of a run in Cincy for Big John, by the way ... but way too many unforced errors to take out a player of Rafa's caliber. Hopefully he'll have another fine showing in the coming weeks.
Can't wait for the action to get underway at Flushing Meadows
As always, we'll be pulling for The Great Swiss to bag # 18...
Let's not forget Del Potro. He can be as dangerous, if not more so than Isner, to any of the top players.
Murray's form was a concern at the last 2 ATP 1000 events, and I for one admire what Murray has achieved, unlike all the Murray haters that exist.
As predominantly a Joker fan, I would not be too alarmed at 2 narrow losses in Montreal and Cincinnati.
He was a little rusty, with a lot of unforced errors and double faults - but has to turn the corner soon.
There was some hints there before Isner of the sublime level he is capable of.
Isner was on fire, and played exceptionally well, but don't think he can maintain that over 5 setters in NY.
In the Womens, Serena Williams is almost at unbackable odds to win - but Victoria Azarenka showed that she can be beaten in Cincy. Serena had owned her in the last 12 months, so was good to see Victoria turn the tables on this trend.
Murray will compete well he always steps up at the slams. It's clear he wasn't as focused as he should be because he just seen it as preparation and he got a rude awakening. He will be vomited 100% defending his crown, no doubt in my mind.
The US Open Draw is out. Do they intentionally make it hard for the top players?
In order for Djokovic to make it to the Semi, he has (most likely) to beat Del Potro.
In order for Nadal to make it to the Semi, he has to (most likely) beat Federer.
In order for Murray to make it to the Semi, he has to beat Berdych.
In order for Ferrer to make it to the Semi, all he has to do is to beat someone outside the top 8.
Clearly Nadal and Djokovic has the toughest draw.
Most importantly, Joker and Murray are in the Top 1/2 of the Draw, so will be scheduled to meet in the 1st Semi if everything goes accords to seedings.
This means that we cannot have a repeat of last years final, and both Joker and Murray will have to be at their best.
From Nadal's perspective, I would be more worried about Isner than Federer.
He will be scheduled to meet Ferrer in the other Semi, but Ferrer is the most doubtful about making it to that stage of the tournament, and would be cannon fodder for Nadal anyway.
Nadal would love to meet Ferrer at the Semi, because that would almost guaranteed a Final spot for Nadal.
Where has Isner been in the past 10 years? Why did he all the sudden, in the last two weeks, become relevant?
