Great victory by Del Potro, I have made the comment on the ATP site (Facebook fans below the article) that Del Potrol should now be 3rd Favourite for the US Open title, and in front of Nadal:

Very impressive semi-final victory in the Southern California Open by Sam Stosur.
It was vintage Stosur, good serve and powerful forehands by the 2011 US Open winner. She will face a very formidable opponent though in tomorrow's final in the form of dual Australian Open winner Viktoria Azarenka - who has had her number up until now (8-0 head-to-head).
Also watched some of the replay of the men's semi between Del Potro and Anderson as well, Del Potro looks very dangerous.
Surprising that the rest of the Top 10 did not attend the Citi Open, it is better to keep playing tennis than simply save yourself for the bigger tournaments. (just like Murray did at the Queen's ATP 250 tournament on grass this year - a smart move).
1) Sam Stosur's biggest problem is the 6 inches between her ears; IMO she gets down on herself and psyches herself out too easily too often. When her head is on straight, she's a very good, top 5 caliber player IMO.
2) I think many men's players skip the DC ATP 500 event because a) the Montreal Masters is the following week and b) DC's weather in late July/early August is usually brutally hot and humid (though the weather for this year's event was actually fairly nice by DC standards and the weather for today's final was spectacular by both DC and absolute standards). Additionally, the Citi Open/Legg Mason Classic typically has drawn solid fields when there are a lot of top American players (Andre Agassi won it 5 times and Andy Roddick and Jimmy Connors won it 3 times each) but there are few top American male players right now. Most of the current top players (I think 9 of the current top 10 and the majority of the guys ranked 11-20) are from Europe. Not coincidentally, the current highest-ranked player from the Western Hemisphere, Juan Martin del Potro, often plays the event (and now has won it 3 times).

Apparently Isner's loss at Montreal now means there will be no American in the Top 20 for the 1st time since official ATP Rannkings began 40 years ago:
The last Grand Slam is now 10 years ago - the 2003 US Open win by Andy Roddick.
European players now totally dominate the tour Top 10 , apart from Del Potrol.
Oceania aren't fairing any better, Bernard Tomic is our top ranked Aussie player,at 41, and he too lost in the 1st Round in Montreal.

Not surprising. 99% of the courts in the States are hardcourt even though 1/3 of ATP events are played on clay. And courts are slower now, too, which favors more strategic point construction rather than American style ball-bashing.
Yes, there have been upsets aplenty today in Montreal.
World Number 2 Murray obviously the biggest loss in the tournament.
Great day for Canada though, with both Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil beating more fancied opponents Del Potro and Tomas Berdych respectively, and moving into the Quarter Finals- with great home crowd support from the Canadian crowd.
Currently Djokovic is up against Denis Istomin from Uzbekistan.
Australia's own Markinko Matosevic has also moved into the Quarters, but faces a very daunting task ahead of him in the form of the resurgent Nadal - who outmaneouvered the big serving Pole Jerzy Janowicz.
I don't give a flying hoot, he has done superbly the past year, you or anyone else can't deny it! We will see a flushing meadows. Wonder what your excuse will be?
