We are going in circles here. Claims about fake job advertisements are flying around. When real job posting (school bus driver/aid) is mentioned, there are 101 excuses why this job sucks (high responsibilities - low pay - crazy students - stupid hours-there are better jobs for people willing to drive trucks and so on). To remind everyone, last job for person in search was uber eats and now person faces vehicle owned reposed and is filing for Chapter 13. So yeah, $15 an hour guaranteed full time job with all benefits as school bus aid or driver not a good job and Chapter 13 is a better option... I see no logic, I am sorry.

I am not here to discuss the definition of solid higher education, but I don't see people with college degrees struggling to find a job. But of course there people are not night owls who only consider 3rd shift jobs... Getting a college degree increases chances of getting better pay job. There is no argument here.

I am wishing everyone best of luck with job searches.

I think you're arguing with yourself, I'm just trying to understand what you're saying.

Basically, people ARE hiring. There ARE jobs out there. Even if it's "only $15/hr," it's better than nothing. And I agree.

Getting solid higher education is even better
Rumor has it that the construction companies working on the Howard Franklin bridge and I-275 are looking for workers.

" During the investigation, the majority of construction workers at the scene gave authorities false names and lied, Gualtieri said. "

This is what infuriates me. She mentions "degrees" as such an obvious thing being needed to get a job... like everyone else who doesn't have one is simply just... not worth even thinking about. This is ridiculous.

As I said, I have a half-dozen degrees. I am perpetually going to school because I like to learn, and have a fantastic job that pays absurdly well... I could basically pay cash for a used Porsche every two weeks. But to say that everyone basically needs to get a degree is completely absurd... like, I don't even know where to go with this.

No one is talking about a living wage, or any of those other silly things that people like to use today. We practically have an entire lost generation with liberal arts degrees that are not only worthless in an office, but can't do anything mechanical or physical either. Having a degree is not going to get a bridge built, or a house built... you need people who are skilled in trades.

I think she is using "degrees" as an ambiguous term... Rather, she means certain critical qualifications and licenses. Stuff like Electrician license, etc., which can lead to some VERY lucrative jobs and income. The owner of Power Design, Inc., here in St-Pete, for instance, does not have a college degree to my knowledge, but he owns a multi-million dollar company that employs engineers, architects, and electricians, and he started off as an electrician himself. One of the most successful companies in the TB area. What he did have when he started, however, was a skillset that's in high demand (electrician) and either HE got his electrician license, or he partnered with someone that had it. From there, get someone that wants to jump on board who holds a PE license, and all of a sudden, you have a full-fledged engineering and construction firm.

You don't need a "degree" to make it, but you sure as heck need an in-demand skillset, and if you don't hold licenses, either an avenue to obtain one or some, or have connections.

Otherwise, you get stuck in this rut of "woe is me, no one wants to hire me."

OTOH, one can ALWAYS find a job in sales. I know people who clear $200k selling life insurance. I can't do it, as I am just no good at it and will get bored and/or frustrated with it (tried before while in college) but for the desperate, those jobs exist, and they are ALWAYS hiring.

I know guys and gals working on light duty F-150-F-450 trucks, D11 dozers, and Caterpillar 797F's making $100k plus. No student loans and they are set to retire at age 55.

I feel your location and skills will determine what type of jobs you will qualify for.

For example, wanting to be a Movie Star in Alaska probably will not be happening.

Melbourne is a good fit for my daughter who is an Engineer due to that area's companies. Grateful Harris hired her like they did me when I was 8 months pregnant with her.

And yes, racism and ageism does exist unfortunately.
