There’s nothing Southern about South Texas.

Even in Houston, every single day, everywhere I go, I hear somebody speaking Spanish or Vietnamese
Not exactly my definition of “Southern culture”
Super outdated view.

I agree with this. South Texas isnt southern. Having a predominately hispanic population really ends any possibility of a primarily southern culture, unto itself. Once you factor in the difference in cuisine, accents, clothing, etc, due to that influence, it becomes pretty obvious that youre no longer in the cultural south. And tbh, theres very little authentically southern about any of the big Texas cities either. Theyre more or less just big generic metropolises with the same hodge podge of worldly culture that you'll find in the large urban areas of anywhere U.S.A. Even cultural events like the Texas State Fair or the Houston Rodeo (to the extent that they can be associated with southern culture at all) are really just used moreso as gimmicks to spur their respective local economies, than any genuine interest in rodeo or cowboy culture.

The State Fair and RodeoHouston are meant to capitalize on TEXAS culture, not southern culture. And the fair aspects of them are the same as what you'd find in any county fair across Middle America.

Which is why I said "to the extent that they can even be considered southern culture at all". Either way, theres nothing authentically Texan nor Southern about them
