Generally, south of I-10 and west I-37 is considered to be the border region of Texas and it seems Spanish is the perdominant language spoken and many, if not most of the families have been in that region since before Texas was a part of Mexico. The landscape looks more Southwestern than Southern. It looks and feels nothing like Dixie Land.

North and west of the Hill Country Texas has a Great Plains/Western feel. It looks and feels more like Western Oklahoma, Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado than Dixie Land.

I-35 and I-37 is probably considered the cultural western boundry of the Southern United States.

Doesn't look Southwestern to me

If you compare South Texas (not Southwest Texas) to Arizona or New Mexico, there is a lot more green.

The pics may not look Southwestern to you but they are Southwestern when you consider the fact that Texas is physically located in the Southern and Western halves of the United States, or the Southwest quadrant. In the pics I see scrubby looking land and short trees. It's hard to distinguish the trees from the bushes. Not the entire SW is brown, cactus and desert. If those pics don't look Southwestern to you, then what region do you think they look like?

Artists from Corpus Christi and San Antonio, respectively. Both have noticeable Southern accents and performed in Southern music genres.

Granted, these are both very old songs. But my point is that at least traditionally, there is a pretty good argument to be made for San Antonio, Corpus Christi, etc. as being part of the South. On the General US forum, people seem really opposed to the idea of South Texas being the South, because there are too many Hispanics there. It's silly though, because someone like Freddy Fender was Hispanic but very Southern culturally in my opinion, even if he was also a Tejano.
Dude, that is a desperate over-reach. Here is the iconic, regionally-defining music of South Texas from by far the best-selling recording artist ever to come out of Corpus Christi

If by South Texas you mean Laredo and McAllen, I would say you're probably correct.

No. The central and western parts of OK are not southern, despite accents and presence of Southern Baptists. OKC is not a Southern city.

You must not have ever visited the Panhandle, then. Our accents are closer to Kansas than to even Dallas' accents.

Just FYI, in the Panhandle, we actually say the "ing" on a word. Instead of "fixin' to," we say "fixing to." How many Southern accents do that?

Joe Walsh of the Eagles is from Kansas and his accent sounds Southern to me.

I didn't say Tejanos were Southern only. Subcultures in the US are not mutually exclusive.
