In 1920 it changed its name to the Nazi Party and by 1923 Hitler was jailed and wrote Mein Kampf. The later part of the 1920's it was still actively recruiting and organizing, he was released and became Chancellor and then we all know too well what followed. The best documentary about Germany and the Nazi's at the start and at the fall is this.

Instead of newsreel footage and official film, this is largely made up of home movies and recordings from ordinary Germans to US soldiers and tourists in pre war Germany. Its not about he exact how but the ways random discontent turned into nazi germany.

This would put 1922 Germany in perspective and for what looks like a good con man, he might do well there.

I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at this. This is the first thing you see every week when we watch the show!

I know. That cracked me up, too. You'd think they'd realize what a lame way that is to start the show.

Bit of trivia ,Back in those days women being very pale looking was a sign of being wealthy, not having to go outside, and being Chauffeured around .

It bugged me that Anna's assault was being handled as more of a problem for Bates than for Anna. Also, Bates' characterization (that Anna pulled away and was afraid to tell him because of what he'd do) doesn't make him sound noble and protective as much as seem like he's a hair's breadth away from being dangerously unhinged.

Also, poor Moseley needs to catch a break. It's like every time he shows up they play that sad trombone music: http://www.sadtrombone.com/

I must have zoned out at some point in last night's episode. I have two questions:

That fellow who dropped by the manor house to see Lady Mary is obviously known by the family. Have we seen him before or do we gather that he had once had a thing for Mary.

Also, did Edith visit a doctor in London?

I didn't recognize him, but according to a review I read this morning he's the guy who brought Pamuk to the house in season 1.

I don't understand why that new lady's maid has to tell Thomas anything. I gather he is blackmailing her somehow, but why can't she just say she didn't hear anything to report? It's not like he's subjecting her to torture or anything.

Did I miss the intro to this new character? Looks like she just suddenly appeared on the show. She does seem nice; wonder what she is hiding and what hold Thomas has over her.
