When you were interviewed, did you present medical evidence for your absences? That alone supports your story - you are employed by the agency but illness prevented your reporting to work, so agency needed to replace you at that particular job. Essentially, temp agency has laid you off until your next assignment.

If too much more time goes by, email your State of IL elected representative. IL needs to make a decision on this - the illness was not your fault.
