But that's the same problem for many climate types. Take Cfb/"oceanic": Are Dublin and Budapest the same climate ? And what about comparing Copenhaguen and Bordeaux ?

Perhaps the issue isn't the term subtropical, but climate vs climate classification.
I look at Koppen's system as one that best explains why a climate has the weather it has, not one that gives an indication of day to day weather. NYC might not have the same day to day weather as Atlanta, but it gets it's weather for the same reasons as Atlanta does.
Same for my climate - It doesn't much resemble Copenhagen that I can see, but the Cfb label provides the best understanding of why bot climates are what they are.
