I wanna get technical with some stuff but I need to preserve my mind energy for during the storm. LOL maybe someone else can post something.

I got a Blizzard Watch which might get upgraded to a Warning.
Blizzard watch is more serious than blizzard warning.

All the excess snow should be dumped right off So Cal's coast, LOL .

LOL...huh? A blizzard watch means the potential is there for blizzard conditions. A blizzard warning means blizzard conditions are imminent in 24 hours or less.

Warning shows a higher confidence that it will occur than a watch.

Storm wasn't forecast to be this big until recently:

Despite the increasing skill of computer forecast models in recent years, this week’s threat emerged remarkably quickly. As recently as Friday, the model consensus was for a weaker storm that would sweep through the region from west to east, then strengthen well offshore. One of the first models to switch gears was the ECMWF, whose operational run issued at 00Z Friday night highlighted the risk of a potential blockbuster storm for the Northeast U.S. By Saturday morning, most other models had quickly joined the bandwagon. “All operational models now have the forecast of a major snowstorm/blizzard,” said NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center on Sunday morning.

First, thanks to everyone for all the info.

Second--my wife has a semi-weekly trip from BOS to NYC on this Monday. She'll return on Amtrak at 3 PM--should we be worried?

No, storm is supposed to start around 7 pm. Should be fine. I assuming returning at 3 pm? If leaving at 3 pm, should be ok, but try to back home asap.

Hmm... NYC has a blizzard warning starting at 1 pm but the forecast says

Snow. High near 26. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Northeast wind 14 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

So, shouldn't be too bad in the afternoon.

Leaving at 3PM. The forecast looks reasonable but the Blizzard Warning starting at 1PM made me a little worried. I guess she doesn't have much choice at this point. I think her company will pay for a hotel if she gets stranded which makes me a little less worried.

If it's only a few inches of snow until 7 PM, should be fine, usually the trains run ok in small amounts of snow. Will be more clear as it gets closer.
