Hi. Extreme Northern Ny here. Looks like we are going to miss out on this one. Looking at the five day forecast and the below zero temps and I'm thinking its probably going to be too cold for much snow.
Missing school depends on the time frame in which the snow falls. If we get a foot over a couple hours then yes to school being cancelled but no to work being cancelled. And only for a day. If we get a foot of snow over 24 hours then no we probably wont have a snow day.

Remember all that talk about what is needed for a huge snowstorm? Well... that's happening.

Current map. Theres the storm over Missouri.. A harmless little Clipper snow event going on for Iowa, Illinois, ect right now... that will phase with the Subtropical Jet Stream off the coast and go BOOM.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
649 AM EST SUN JAN 25 2015

.SYNOPSIS...
A CLIPPER LOW OVER THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY THIS MORNING WILL
TRACK TO THE MID ATLANTIC STATES BY MONDAY MORNING...WHERE A
SECONDARY COASTAL LOW WILL DEVELOP. THIS STORM WILL RAPIDLY DEEPEN
AND BECOME A POWERFUL NOR`EASTER AS IT TRACKS SLOWLY NORTH TOWARD
THE NEW ENGLAND COAST BY TUESDAY EVENING...

THE INGREDIENTS ARE THEN COMING TOGETHER FOR A POSSIBLE HISTORIC
NOR`EASTER AS A SECONDARY LOW FORMS OFF THE MID ATLANTIC EARLY MON.
THIS LOW UNDERGOES RAPID INTENSIFICATION AS THE LOW CUTS OFF ALOFT
NEAR THE MID ATLANTIC MON NIGHT...LIFTING SLOWLY NORTHWARD THROUGH
TUE NIGHT. MSLP DROPS NEARLY 30 MB IN 24H FROM MON TO TUE
MORNING.

NWS Boston:

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
HIGHLIGHTS...

* MAJOR TO POTENTIALLY HISTORIC WINTER STORM MON NIGHT INTO TUE NIGHT
* BLIZZARD WATCH EASTERN MA/RI
* 1 TO 2 FEET OF SNOW FOR MANY AREAS - LOCALLY HIGHER AMTS POSSIBLE
* DAMAGING WINDS POSSIBLE COAST ESP CAPE/ISLANDS - GUSTS 60 TO 70 MPH
* SIGNIFICANT COASTAL FLOODING POSSIBLE ALONG THE EASTERN MA COAST

THIS IS PRETTY MUCH A TEXT BOOK CASE FOR A MAJOR WINTER
STORM/BLIZZARD IN SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. POTENT SHORTWAVE DIVES
SOUTHEAST CLOSES OFF SOUTH OF LONG ISLAND AS LOW PRESSURE BOMBS OUT
AND TRACKS UP THE NEW ENGLAND COAST.
