I live in Hounslow so my local stations are Heathrow and Kew. I always state the temperature for Heathrow, but if somewhere else is hotter on a hot summer day then I will mention that as well. Gravesend and Wisley often record higher temperature than Heathrow in summer, and they certainly aren't in the UHI (which doesn't affect highs much anyway).

You don't see the flaw in your argument there???
No, I don't see it. This gives a big advantage for larger cities while punishes the smaller.

Why not just quote the lesser known station as if it were a separate place? When I lived down there I always used to credit my temperatures as being from Hampstead rather than mislead people by having them think I was talking about London as a whole when the default station there is Heathrow.

Well, that's the way it is. I'm from a smaller city and it doesn't bother me. London is simply much bigger and covers a wider area, so understandably will have a bit more variation from station to station. London is over 30 miles across compared to about 10 for Leeds, and Turku smaller still.

Rajakari is some 2 miles from Artukainen, Saint Catherine is some 3 miles, Salo some 20 miles from Turku. Ok, I will put the Rajakari lows and Salo highs in my weatherbox then. Maybe even Parainen as it's just some 12 miles from me as the crow flies.

Hottest Temperature in My Metro Area Recent Years:

May: 30.9C
June: 33.2C
July: 35.0C
August: 32.8C

My nearest official station is RAF Linton on Ouse, and that's around 10 miles as the crow flies from me. There is a station at the University of York that I'll sometimes use though. There is often a difference between the two stations though, particularly the lows, which are warmer in York.

It's ridiculous that there are cities in this country without a weather station. Dunno has to use Church Fenton for averages, even though he's in Leeds, and Church Fenton is in the Vale of York. Ridonkulous.

Here are the yearly highs for here, just for the hell of it:

2000 - 31.7
2001 - 30.2
2002 - 30.2
2003 - 31.8
2004 - 28.3
2005 - 30.1
2006 - 31.0
2007 - 28.1
2008 - 27.5
2009 - 29.0
2010 - 27.5
2011 - 31.0
2012 - 26.1
2013 - 30.8

2007-2010 was the longest stretch without 30C in recent years. 2012 one of only two years in the past 30 that failed to reach 80F (the other was 1998, or 1997). So between 2000-2013, the average yearly max was 29.5C. 8 years reached 30C vs 6 that didn't. So I'd place a bet on it reaching 30C at least once, as opposed to not reaching 30C at all. 90F, on the other hand, is as rare as hens teeth. We've only reached it twice as far as I know, both in 1990.

Is that the Linton on Ouse data, or Church Fenton? I live almost halfway between both stations, but I work at Linton so I tend to use that station. It's a shame Church Fenton shut down really.

Wow, I was expecting higher. What about the high for 2014? 2000-2013 average yearly max here is 30.1. You're somewhat struggling to reach 32C
