Ah, you'd rather live in the most violent capital city in the world because of a few cold winter days. Got it.

I was not aware that it was -20 C with blizzard conditions in Rochester for all of November thru April.

In Binghamton we got -19c in March in 2015. This year, Ithaca NY hit -17c on April 5th. You really have no idea how long winter sticks around in Upstate New York. How do you feel when you get 90f weather in October? Because that's how winter is in Upstate NY

I'm not arguing that winter isn't long in Upstate NY, you do exaggerate it and act like those temperatures at that time of year is really common or something. How often is it -17 C in April? I'm willing to bet that it was a record breaking occasion.

Anyways, the point is is that it's stupid to live in a place simply because of the climate.

You don't have to shovel bullets. At least getting pistol whipped doesn't create a wind chill.

At least if you get shot in the head in Medellín, you'll have a nice tan while the police cordon off your body. In Minneapolis, you'd get buried under 6 feet of snow.

There is nothing wrong with Colombia and Ecuador, unless you hate mild weather, a quickly expanding economy, and a rich culture

And, you know, the rampant crime, the extreme inequality, the corruption, the high poverty..

Although credit where credit is due, somewhere like Medellín has seen its murder rate fall to lower levels than cities like Detroit and New Orleans.

Thing is there are a lot of reasons to not live in Upstate NY, not just because the climate. Depressed economy, crime, lack of things to do, etc

It was record breaking, but these sorts of record breakers happen far too often the past few years. Maybe the current climate pattern that we're in causes these insanely low temperatures to happen in spring

Medellin's murder rate fell precipitously, last year it was something like 20/100k. Which is bad, but not any worse than your regular US rust belt city. And Bogota is about the same as Chicago
