Hurricanes can come with a ridge in place. They can come riding up along the right side of the Jet stream. But they cannot move into a trough.(bottom of Jet). They cannot move into a strong High Pressure but can attack it.
Not a coincidence Irma hit Florida when we had the Jet stream dipping in the Northeast. Now the Jet stream is dipping over the rockies and here comes Jose and maybe Maria as well up the East coast.
Love watching the timing and weather patterns for events. So fascinating. Of course other players involved like the Atlantic blocking, steering currents in Gulf area, dry air, ect. ect
Do they have Palm trees on that island there? (Nantucket)
You can see how these NorEasters...I mean Tropical systems doesn't affect the interior much when the center stays 100+ miles off the coast.. Same with coastal snowstorms.
Hopefully this rainfall forecast pans out. Not enough, but better than nothing.
I hope so too; it's getting pretty dire around here. Month to date rainfall is just 0.62", most of which having fallen on one day (the 2nd), so that had better come true if we want a chance of meeting our average (3.3 in).
Bands of rain should start Tomorrow morning here and continue all day. Or might just dry up after the initial big heavy rain and we just get a few showers here and there.
It's in the 60s and overcast with light rain showers. Somehow it's supposed to get up to 90 today.
Also, there was a thunderstorm yesterday, the first one in a while. I'm glad we're getting some rain. One thing I don't like about my climate is how easy it is to go two or three weeks without any rain.
