A look at the Jet stream Steering Currents for storms 970mb-989mb in strength..
That Atlantic blocking has been so persistent. I wonder if we're in for some NorEaster doozies next couple months!
Looks like some blocking over the Gulf and that's why Maria wont be going there. (Tropical Cyclones take the Path of Least Resistance)
But it's making Jose stop and do a Uturn. Eventually MAYBE meet up with Maria in what's called a Fujiwhara Effect.
Quote:
"When two hurricanes spinning in the same direction pass close enough to each other, they begin an intense dance around their common center. If one hurricane is a lot stronger than the other, the smaller one will orbit it and eventually come crashing into its vortex to be absorbed. Two storms closer in strength can gravitate towards each other until they reach a common point and merge, or merely spin each other around for a while before shooting off on their own paths. But often, the effect is additive when hurricanes come together — we usually end up with one massive storm instead of two smaller ones."
Nice! Mt Rainier in Washington State. I believe 5500' here at the lodge. They had the plows out before. 1st plow of season. This snow is great for the fires that have been happening.
I knew I wasn't off. Normally the Jet digs down in the Northern plains first before Northeast. It always did seem like they got the cold air masses first before us.
