High today was 84F here and at MDW and 83F at ORD. It's mostly sunny now...

and after a one day break today, storms and flooding return tomorrow

Cool Fourth of July week for Chicago and much of the southern US while the PNW bakes.

ECMWF for the next 2 weeks has Chicagoland near normal with temps keeping the PNW baking (also the Northern Plains) and the Southern US cooler than normal. It also has the eastern 2/3rd wetter than average

Today was a forecast bust (though still above average), hit 98°F. On the other hand, there was some impressive heat on the other side of the mountains in the desert.

Victorville hit 109°F, which tied their record high last set in 1973. Palm Springs hit 121°F, which was a new record high, the old record was 120°F(1979). And Thermal hit 120°F, which was 1°F short of their record of 121°F(1973)!

Besides Chicago, it has also been rainy in Oklahoma. The diagonal middle of Oklahoma down through I-44 got hit the hardest for the last couple of days. The east side of the OKC metro on the map got over 6 in. Other OKC rain gauges not on the map got over 8 inches. More rain expected for early Mon. morning. Oklahoma is in the middle of all this heavy rain spell. It runs from southwestern TX to Illinois. High temps in central Oklahoma expected to remain in the 80s until July 6. July 4 expected to be dry, fortunately.

Its a corridor from Texas all the way to Illinois and Indiana. We got a reprieve yesterday but it's been basically endless waves of storms for days. Not all day rain just bouts of storms one after another here.

More on the way today

but a cold front coming in from Canada at the end of the week might break this pattern. Well I should say colder front because it's already been below average in terms of max temps overall the past number 8 days

Next 7 days according to the Euro

Next 14 days

Even with the extreme of the PacNW heat, they still aren't worse as Southern New England IMO.

Pure misery today with dews in the 70s and temps in the 90s.

PacNW

VS

Southern New England

We did better than forecast today. High is 88F here near IKK 85F at MDW and 82F at ORD. Scattered storms around. Dew Point was 75F when my station was at 88 degrees so the heat index was 98F. Storms can through and knocked the temps down to 73F at the moment.

Nearing the 90 degree mark with a 73 dewpoint. Still not complaining, at least it's not 120 like out west. Looks like Canada might set another all time record today. Always have to look at the bright side.
