The northside of Chicago and the north suburbs are getting hammered with lake effect snow right now. Some locations pushing +8 inches

Snow tallies vary widely. I have a +2 inches so far but locations along the lake and in the city are pushing 8 inches and climbing.

Snow band on the lake stretches 270 miles. Narrow but if you're under the band the snow rates are pretty impressive!

It's interesting that our biggest snowfall of the season so far was a surprise snowfall. As of the forecast this morning, we were supposed to have some flurries around midday and that's it. Instead, it snowed pretty good much of the morning and it looks like we have gotten an inch of snow now. It lead to lots of slide offs and accidents around Indy. Looks like it has tapered off but that was quite unexpected.

Huge cold airmass depicted on GFS building south in the medium-long range. Wicked ridge off the West Coast will create active pattern/ battle zone temperatures havoc for the eastern US for the first half of February.

Wow, yeah. Such a straight line between hot and cold. Looks man-made almost.

Tampa Bay area weatherman is advising wives to bring Husbands in ahead of coming winter storm. I just saw this live broadcast. Not much chance but not impossible to see a rare bay area snow flurry. Near 0 percent but not impossible. Atmosphere is dry but temps will be right. I've seen snowmen built in oranges groves and icicles in trees as big as my leg walking to school. Here in lower Alabama it's going to down to near 20°. Every forecast it gets forecast to go a degree or to lower. A hard freeze tonight and again tomorrow night. Expecting only 1-2 more nights of freezing and then it is spring garden time for cold hardy crops. Rains on the way.

I think there will be more colder low temperatures for the first half of February for areas of the Deep South north of Florida...

I do too. Most every state I have lived in February has had the coldest temps. FL, MO, TN for sure. All I remember about MI is lake effect snow that I developed a bitter hatred for... So far AL has been nice but we've been told to brace for wet and cold last fall. No certain date but in general be ready to protect citrus and such from the freezes that could be worse than normal. Like our TN place the wet months are in the winter. Then again last fall was drier than normal from what I've read. Cotton and peanuts were a lot easier to get out of the fields than a lot of years. It's one thing to mud out corn but that doesn't work with peanuts or cotton.
