I'd like to see a good seafood restaurant -- not a chain. I mean, Red Lobster is OK as these things go, I'd just like to dream higher.

I continue to be surprised by how few BBQ places there are around here. What do we have in the Charles Town / Shepherdstown / Harpers Ferry area? There's Longshots, but I haven't liked that much. I think there's a nondescript place over by the casino, meh. I'd settle for a Red Hot & Blue or Famous Dave's or the like at this point.

I too would love to see a local bbq joint, preferably not a chain. I personally think Famous Dave's is hot garbage and would much rather see an independant type place open up. I'd be a big fan of something like Hempen Hill (Hagerstown) opening up here with awesome barbeque and a huge selection of craft brews. Actually, some of the folks selling roadside bbq around here on the weekends have decent grub, but I would like a dine in option.

No word on a timeframe, but this is a direct quote from Sara Mahaffey, Cal Tort Director of Marketing:

"I’m 99 percent sure we’re coming back to Ranson."

Oh dear God yes!!! Sara is the bomb! They can easily move back in their original space since I am sure they haven't gutted it yet so it could be up quick if they do.

Default This Just In

Famous Footwear has closed at the PTC. They were removing the store's sign as I drove by this afternoon.

That coupled with the fact that the Hollywood Casino is now laying off employees, I am starting to wonder if the retail growth has peaked in the Charles Town/Ranson and we are now in decline.

Will say Famous Footwear had no chance when Olympia moved in and putting it close to a Kohls. Not enough people to support that many place with similar type of shoes.

Default Frank's Movie Theater

I heard from a reliable source that the Ranson Planning Commission has approved the final design of the Movie Theater - restaurant - bowling alley and after a five year wait construction is set to begin in December.

As a Ranson resident who has been waiting since 2008 for this to happen, I will believe it when the ground is finally broken for this. It has been a long long long time coming.
