Oh, right. I do know a guy that's having trouble finding a job--but he's also got a criminal record. So I guess it's not his fault, because he's trying to get a job, and no one will hire him.

Gotcha.
Riiight. The only people having a hard time finding a job MUST be criminals.
The first: Most people have had some run ins with people who are unemployed and LAZY-so they believe everyone is the same way. An example, my other half works for a small to middle size company-over 100 employees and manages a group of 10-anyway, they needed some temps to come in for a 6 month assignment and the job could lead to full time. The pay was about 25k and mostly people straight out of college or young people do this job. So about a week into it a temp about 24 and straight out of college walks into the office and says "I'm not coming back." So the first question why-"She looks at him right in the eyes and says "because I have a degree in economics and I should at least be making 40k and walks out." This has happened at least 10 times...people feel they are too good for jobs-Trust me I'm not saying work for minimum wage but if you don't have much or any experience you aren't getting paid much right off the bat.
Second-Some people have never walked in someone else's shoes...you can judge all you want until you are faced with the same situation-now most people know for a fact you wouldn't murder or rape anyone but what if you lose your job and can't sell your fancy house or you AND your spouse lose your jobs and couldn't find other work? Some people really don't know how hard it is because maybe they have never lost a job-when you see things on the news it's never as real as when you are living it. That's why people who are mean or critical-I usually believe they are the one's that A. have never lived it and B. Would be jumping off a bridge if it happened to them.
Bet you I could find five places hiring within a mile of my home.
Minimum.
Got a job lead? Both my parents live in Florida, in different cities no less. They say the complete opposite of you. FL is one of the worst hit states and the unemployment #'s back it up. There are over 1 million unemployed workers in FL currently.
Almost as bad as CA and MI. Unfortunately those are the only states where I have any type of contacts. I've already left both FL & CA in the last 3 years in hopes of something better back in Chicago, can't find anything here either.
A lot of people like yourself like to run off your mouth but then can never come up with those actual leads. I've called people out on this and said if you give me a job I will give you compensation for finding it for me. So want to make some money?
