You live an awfully sheltered life then...

Then again, I imagine MOST Americans live the same Pollyannish lifestyle you do and have yet to experience any real suffering.

Jeez, something is mentally wrong with posters in this thread who instead of asking WHY should a person have to commit a crime to access something which should be a basic human right calls the person who commits the crime an idiot, nut, loon, or any other derogatory name.

A few very desperate individuals do resort to committing crime in order to at least get off the street. Prison isn't exactly what I'd call an "alternative lifestyle" though.

It's trading one set of inconveniences for another. I'd say that once in jail, it'd be difficult to go back to a 'normal' life, but the same could be said about homelessness. I honestly can't say which would be worse.

I'm not sure it's really sheltered if one is not very aware of the people who are doing this which represents .0000001% of the population

to bad it doesn't work that way. This is coming from a guy that managed a homeless shelter.

Are you sure about that number?

So you're telling me just in America, you know without a doubt that there are only 31.5 people "doing this" (whatever that means)?

The point was next to no one doing this. It's a stat you likely will not be able to find. You can make it 1% if you'd like and it's still minor and not much of an issue. There are lots of fringe people who do cray things.

Are you sure these people are as few as you think? Keep in mind you live in a country where the MSM noly focuses on what Lindsay Lohan is doing next, not the fact that food prices continue to rise. Just because these people aren't in your face everyday doesn't mean they don't exist, nor does it mean the suffering they're going through should be taken lightly by folks who more or less have had it easy (in comparison) their entire lives.
