Very Low Salary: Under 25k (most service and unskilled jobs)
Low Salary: $25k-35k (most entry level college grad jobs & experienced unskilled jobs)
Decent Salary: $35k-49k (most non-mgmt office workers and most skilled trade workers)
Good Salary: $50K-79K (most middle management jobs)
Great Salary: 80k-99k (most higher management and professional jobs)
Amazing Salary: 100k and higher (most directors/executives, doctorates and successful entrepreneurs)
HOUSEHOLD INCOMES (not including childless ppl who live alone)
Very Low HHI: Under $50k (poor households)
Low HHI: $50k-74k (working class households)
Decent HHI: $75k-89k (lower middle class households)
Good HHI: $90k-129k (solidly middle class households)
Great HHI: $130k-199k (upper middle class households)

Does not debt to income ratio really affect all of these factors I mean you can bring home North of 100,000 grand but if you have lot of bills, college loans, mortgages etc. siphoning money away it suddenly goes a lot less further than it would otherwise.

Pretty much this for me in the NYC area, too. NJ is the wealthiest state besides Maryland which is probably why I have such high standards, I guess. The median household income for NJ is just under 70k, at $69,400.
The OP seemed pretty low to me for the NYC area. The descriptions in parentheses will vary by industry. For example, a "middle management" person in professional services will likely earn around $100K, while a similar job description in finance might earn double that. Based on what I know about the area of professional services I work in, here are the probable ranges IMO:

Actually, to be honest, you're right. This is a better representation.
I live in the NYC area and have lived in all high cost areas of CA too.
I know mostly people in their mid 30s, and the only people I know making over six figures are people who work in finance at big firms, high healthcare professionals (doctors, dentist, pharms, etc), corporate lawyers, and a few people who were able to make it to upper management at their respective jobs.
A few of the IT people or lucky accountants are close or supass it barely.
And around 95%+ of my friends have bachelors and most have higher.
So, 80-90K is very good for me. Around 80% of my friends make that or less, so you must consider that much more people are making less than that overall.
