In this job market would quit a job that burns you out and you really hate and try to work temp while job searching or try to stick it out until the economy gets better this year especially if you are in your upper 50,S age wise. Working 9-5:30 makes difficult to interview as I only have 12 vacation days, 6 sick days, 8 legal holidays, 2 floating holidays. Problem is working in the quality of life jobs for 25 with tons of time off I got spoiled. For the first time I have to work washingtons birthday and martin luther king day as all cpa firm are open.

Working a accountant in a cpa firm for the past 9 months which got bought over by a bigger company with crummier benefits and no more overtime pay and I am getting too old to work for a cpa firm. I am scared that this job will eventually make me sick.

Well, I just did quit a job but it was a bit more complicated than hating it. I didn't hate the job, rather the agency and its policies. Plus, I was on my second verbal warning and after this past week, would have been written up, so I sort of quit before I got fired.

Mind you, I have always been a hard worker and very conscientious, but this was a quota driven human services environment, and I am not a quota sorta gal. My last day was yesterday and as I left I had the strangest sort of feelings - sadness, loss, anger - all rolled up into one.

You say you are in your upper 50s and that it might make you sick. Well, that's a tough spot to be in. What do you hate so much about it? What are realistic options for work? And what do you mean by it might make you sick?

I was always told to never quit a job unless I had a new one to replace it.

These days that makes more sense than ever.

Cudo's to you movin'on, you're a brave gal! Good luck with the job search.

What I hate the most is having to track my time for billing purposes as my time is billed out to clients and the pressure to always produce like a machine. In a normal compmay I never had to account for my time on a daily basis

Do they give you a program to track the time? The reason I ask is because if they don't that would probably drive me nuts.

I am a time keeper, too. I bill what I bill and if it's not enough, oh well. Is someone on your back about your time?

Well, you probably do not know what's going on on the job market right now..Well, maybe it is easy to find a job in accounting area..I do not know..
It is not the right time to quit a job even if you hate it unless you have $$$ to survive or positive that you will find another job in next 3 months..Or you can survive on unemployement...

I agree with others here. Find another job first unless you have decent savings and your own health plan.
