What is the most ADVANCED nation in the world today? (how much, agricultural)

USA without a doubt. I think Japan is pretty cool though and they do a good job. All the other Asian countries can't really compare, not sure why you guys would want more Asian countries on there.
Science and technology USA on pure spending alone shows how advanced it is (though I wish it were more) and pretty much the top for immigration, diverse population, top unversities etc. Then Japan, Nordic countries, Canada, Germany, France, UK, Switzerland, South Korea, and other rising powers etc. Scandavian countries are overall advanced countries including social issues, but for a multicultural country of its size, the USA does alright.
It isn't just about technology, you know? All factors combined I still say Japan or Finland. The US is top dog when it comes to the sheer scale and spending on science for example, but other factors bring it down a lot.
I think the best thing to do when asking a question like this is to look at the well being of the nations citizens...the access and availability to amenities both necessities and luxuries and the standard of living in general. Also, lack of corruption and state of peace is important too...since participating in war and conflict is at this point backwards and primitive, this all will give you perspective on the political advancement. Then you would look at the productivity and output that a nation gives to the world based on it's resources and population, so per capita, that then will cover the science and technology aspect. These things considered, the Nordic countries are all at the top of the list, as well as other western european countries like switzerland, the NL, and Luxembourg. Singapore, and Japan should not be left out either. The US is loaded with natural resources and has a massive amount of output based on that...but it is a corrupt country and it's impact on the world is more tyrannical than productive. It also has one of the lowest average standards of living compared to other first world industrialised nations, and a stagnant monopolised political system.
I'd say Japan, all things considered. It's the only other country than can really hold its own against the US when it comes to science and technology, and it's as good as or better than just about every European country when it comes to education, health care, life expectancy, infrastructure, and crime.
So subjective............
For first worlders, some third world paradise (paradise for them, of course..).

While the US is in relative decline on average, I am still impressed with its technological prowess, especially information & telecommunications technology, companies like Apple most recently for example, without which we would not be on these forums communicating with each other, not to mention that it has allowed for the globalization of industrialization, ironically though one of the causes of the US's relative decline on average. Those with special skills prosper more than others.
I like Europe and Japan for their high speed trains, and they have also made significant contributions to manufacturing and information & telecommunications technology. I understand that Japan is ahead of the US in some electronic gadgets.
In short, then, still the countries of early industrialization, also in the field of medicine, while most of the other countries are still playing catch up.
Going forward, the question may be which country makes a break-through in the energy constraint that is currently shackling global growth and causing a lot of conflict (US military technology worth mentioning in this context).
