We all know that different nations excel at different qualities. But which nation would you choose as being the most advanced in the world based on a wide range of criteria - including social, political, economic, scientific, cultural, esthetic and other qualities?
Select as many nations as you like which fit the bill. Please explain your choices.

I would pick Japan since they handled the massive Eartquake, Tsunami and Nulcear Disaster far better then we would have here in Canada and the U.S. and that gained my respect... Plus Japan has a highly advanced economy, a thriving auto industry and some of the most modren and advanced infastructure in the Westren World.

Hmmm. Only 3 countries in Asia listed. Hard to take this poll seriously with only 3 Asian countries as options.

I've got to stick with the good ol USA on this one, but I think we've been loosing ground a lot lately and have to step it up over the next decade.

I probably could have listed some more Asian countries and countries on other continents as well. Maybe Singapore, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, South Africa and Chile.
But I wanted to stick with those countries that are widely considered to be at the forefront in the world today with a few others mixed in.

I think of Advanced in terms of Technology. For Research & Development, which is the precursor to Technology, there is one country which does very well. The Perceived Leaders in various technologies was somewhat surprising.

It's definitely not the US whatever the Americans say.
I'm stuck between Japan and Finland. Japan has basically been in an endless economic crisis for the past 20 years though.

The US because of California. California is equal to Japan in technology.
