Rub it in, won't ya. I left a 30 dollars/hour job for a minimum wage job in the US (7.75, woohoo I could sooo live on that, right? ) and I'm about to pay a small fortune for an education I'd be getting for free in Sweden.

Yeah, I keep hearing about the "taxes are lower in the US than in socialist Sweden" - but you know, now that I own my own business and employ 2 Americans, I gotta tell you, taxes aren't that low here afterall, not considering all the extra fees and taxes here and there for this and that ...
(Oh, not to mention - when I paid taxes in Sweden, I got something back. When I pay taxes here in the US ... Well, I do get entertainment since I'm helping out paying for that joint airforce/army base I can see from my window ...)

There's no such thing as "The best country in the world". If the OP loves it so much here and it's a God given truth that this is NUMBER 1, then how come I want to move back to Sweden?
Geez, could it be that perhaps "Number 1" is up to each and every one to decide?

Whatever possessed you to leave Sweden? Don't tell me--a girl, right? Live and learn.

Put it down to experience and move back. A friend of mine from Norway did so some years ago after a decade and a half in America. Never looked back.

What kept him here for 15 years?

A guy, actually. (I'm a lady )

But, I'm going on vacation back there on Sunday for a few weeks. And my family and friends will try to talk me into staying, like always. If it wasn't for my cats not being able to move back with me (one is chronically ill) and now my business, I'd seriously consider it. One day, though, one day ...

Free education, higher benefits if you're jobless, more vacation time, better transport, free healthcare, all payed for through higher taxes.

Plus in Sweden the gap between rich and poor is comparatively small.. the poor in Sweden more than likely enjoy a better life style than their US counterparts.

Strange, in another thread about a San Francisco/Montreal poll you said you lived in San Francisco for 4 years (and got bored after a few months). So why did you move?

And it is not depressing here.

The only super power, why are so many Americans such damn fools as to believe that rubbish, if the USA launched nukes at Russia and China all the US cities will end up as molten rubbish.
And no Reagan was not right in spouting that the USA would be rebuilt in two years if clobbered by a full scale nuclear attack.

The only super power yet the USA was not willing to go to the aid of it's great ally Georgia when it picked a scrap with Russia and got a spanking.
Why no invasion of Russia to help Georgia ? after all Bush did rant he was a war president..

I guess you could put our optimism on the positive or the negative heading, depending on your point of view.
Now some evils sods burnt the so called White house, they were not invaders ?
