I love this thread. So far I've only reached page 50 so forgive me if these have been mentioned in pages 51 to 230!
Heard from one of our building contractors: "Don't worry, it'll be a cakewalk in the park"
Seen in many online forums: "Hey, it's a doggy dog world!"
A huge store sign in a town called Wasaga Beach - "WASSAGA CONVENIENCE"
My husband, trying to fend off a telemarketer who called at supper time: "Sorry, I'm incapacitated at the moment." The woman responded by asking if she called back at a later time when he wasn't decapitated.
I do admit to judging people who write "definately." To me, the "a" is SO out of place they may as well spell it "definytely".
My biggest peeve (dad drummed this into us when we were very young)....
"The reason why." Even worse - "the reason why ....... is because...." I know this is controversial but I will never submit!
"The reason why she let the dog out was because it kept scratching at the door." ARGHHH
"The reason why she let the dog out was that it kept scratching at the door." ARGHHH
"The reason she let the dog out was because it kept scratching at the door." ARGHHH
"The reason she let the dog out was that it kept scratching at the door". CORRECT!
And one more - everyone does this, though. "You have two choices - red or blue." No, you simply have a choice. ONE choice. Two options, yes, but only one choice.

Hah -- I use this word ALL the time and must rely on spell check to get it right. There are some words whose spelling just won't stick in my head!!

There are ALWAYS more choices... Red, Blue, Red & Blue, or None. I count 4.

The A is not out of place in "adequately" and "delicately". You can't always blame the mis-users of a language that spells like it was created by a committee.

That is really no worse than "the place where I was born" or "the time when he arrived".

LOL, you're right. My weakness is "stationary" and "stationery". The only way I can remember them is the associate the "e" in stationery as standing for "envelope"

I have trouble with those two, too. Thanks for the mnemonic.
