Description: The council, a nonprofit organization, was established in 1984 and is recognized as the official arts agency of the city of Tucson and Pima County. Description: Known locally as “The Berger,” this auditorium offers cozy seating for 496 with an elevated stage. Description: This group has been designated “The State Theatre of Arizona.” Founded in 1967 as the Arizona Civic Theater, the company staged its first productions in a small hotel in Tucson for a small number of theatergoers. In 1972 the company went professional and changed its name to the Arizona Theatre Company. Later in 1978 ATC began performing in both Tucson and Phoenix.Today ATC mounts several professional productions per year during the regular arts season, ranging from Shakespeare and classical and contemporary dramas to musicals and works by new artists.

Description: Tucson’s only live, old-fashioned musical melodrama theater, the Gaslight is well known in the area for its lighthearted, rip-roaring comedies. Audiences can enjoy hissing at the villains, cheering the heroes, and tapping their toes to the music. The majority of these year-round productions are written by local playwrights (including the song parodies) especially for Gaslight Theatre. It’s good family entertainment, where one can also dine on a wide variety of snack foods like pizza, hot dogs, and nachos, and enjoy fountain treats, beer, wine, and soft drinks. The food is provided by Little Anthony’s Diner, which is located at the back of the theater. It’s one of the best-run operations in town.
