Description: Start the season fast at Cape Cod’s longest-established triathlon in early June. Staged from beautiful Craigville Beach, this is the ideal race for athletes of every ability. It begins with a 0.25-mile ocean swim in Nantucket Sound, continues as a scenic 10-mile bike loop through Centerville and Osterville, and ends with a 3.5-mile run through the quiet neighborhoods of Centerville Village. Sprint I is held in mid-June, and Sprint II takes place in early Sept. The entry fee is $50 for those ages 10 to 17; the pro fee is $65; it’s also $65 for those older than 18.

Description: For a special treat, check out the Cape Cod Old Timers League in the Mid- and Lower Cape towns. The season runs from late May to the Tuesday before Labor Day. The league wraps up with the annual Cape Cod Senior Softball Classic, a three-day tournament in early Sept. This event features surprisingly entertaining softball from players 55 years and older. Teams come from as far away as Connecticut and New Hampshire, and there are divisions for 65 and 70-plus.

Description: Held over a two-week period in early July, this tennis tournament at the college features men’s and women’s singles and doubles matches. Junior and adult divisions are based on age, not experience. Matches typically take place between Wed and Sun over the two-week period.

Description: These matches take place over a two-week period in late July and early Aug at various locations around the Cape and feature singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Semifinals and finals are held at the Mid-Cape Racquet Club. The Open is great fun for competitive as well as club players. There are divisions for all ages and skill levels.

Description: In this Aug tournament, players younger than 11 to older than 70 battle it out in junior, men’s, women’s, and seniors’ divisions at Willy’s Gym in Orleans and on private courts located throughout Orleans. Highly competitive tennis buffs come from all over New England representing college level through ranked adults. There are singles and doubles (men’s, ladies’, and mixed) competitions.
