Possible Relocation to Norfolk

I am thinking about relocating to the Norfolk area. I am not familiar with the area and am inquiring about the best part of Norfolk to reside for a single female. I would be looking to rent an apartment and would need to be within walking distance of a grocery store, drug store and bank, etc.

Someone suggested the area of Bay View, but I could not locate any apartments there for rent on line. Can anyone shed any list on this area or any other area that you would feel safe in walking...

THOUGHTS ON LABOR DAY: Had a round table discussion with some managers over the weekend. One said; " Now that college is back in session I will hire several interns, I get as much work out of them in four hours as I can out of the long term employee's in eight hours at half the price and don't have to pay them any benefits." Home ownership

Owning a home has a lot of headaches. I'm barely realizing. I'm stressing over everything so much that at the end of the day, I feel no joy. My neighbors are nice, this is a beautiful area, the house is comfortable and there's a nice shopping area close by. But I stress over the lawn, the water bill(we are so dry, it's scary) and all the bills in general. The bills are a modern day stressor. I don't think our parents and their parents stressed so much.
