Cute! The ones I saw a month ago would only follow the mother in a bunch behind her body, sticking close to her.

Out at the lake yesterday. Got a little work done on the cabin.



Water was up about 3 feet high.

Now there's a flood watch through Friday on the Kenai. A glacial dam has blown out and here comes the water...

Nice work Rance...you coming right along on the cabin!!! thanks for the pic's. just watched a documentary about bear specialists going out on Skilak lake looking for the worlds largest bears!!!

well according to "them" there are 12 foot, short faced bears, descendants of prehistoric bears....when we get up there we are planning on doing boating on Skilak Lake!! would love to photograph a big un!!!

Poor quality...but I got him...


This was one pretty bear. She had two small cubs and was out in the river looking for a way out.

There is a lots of wave activity for a lake. Is that because of the ice dam bursting or is the lake pretty much like that all the time?

More times than not...that lake is mirror flat calm. We've just had this July storm that won't go away. Being 10 miles long, right on the mountains, it does get some nasty weather and rough waves at times.
The ice dam that blew out is up the Skilak River. It happens about once a year at least.
