i'd LOVE to live in alaska. hopefully someday, when grad school is finished, i can move up there. it looks so beautiful and i love the fact that so much of it is untouched... down here in NC, greedy developers are tearing up everything and it's really difficult to watch. i can't wait to be able to move somewhere where people actually care about preservation

I went into the Carr's the other day, and, lecherous, old man that I am, was suitably impressed by the miles of cleavage, bared bellies, and just general pulchritudinous female flesh on parade. Thank God for spring.

I thought the Gold Coast was the eastern north shore of Nassau County, NY?
Just kidding...
I'm from NY, and we're not all rude and obnoxious. At least not the Italian ones...

Alright, I'm from Sweden, so I guess I don't really have much of a say in this, but from reading about Alaska (most articles are about the northern parts - I'm mostly interested in the southern, any help?) one gets the feeling there's only about four or so hours of light every day during winter - is this true?
I live in the equivalence of Seward (when it comes to barings) and here we get about six hours - thankfully I love the dark!
I would appreciate any kind of response, and by the way Rance, I would more than gladly move to Sterling

You're interested in the southern part? It gets more than 4 hours of daylight---light around 8 am and dark around 4 pm during the darkest time.

Rainy is right...we get more daylight in the winter than the interior or northern coast of the state. But those areas have more daylight in the summer months.

Here is why I live in Alaska:

One day's catch:

And I do not need a fridge in the winter:

Seriously: We arrived here in 1997 from South Africa after living in the lower 48 for 7 months, going from state to state, starting in Florida (wow! never seen so many q-tips driving!) driving all the way to Vegas (too many 'ladies of the nite'). We arrived on a wintry March nite and everything looked so pure, serene and full of peace. Then breakup happened. Yuck! But the spring blooms, long days, fishing, camping, friendly people, etc. made up our minds that this is where we wanted to raise our kids. IMHO God created Alaska first and the rest of the world with the leftovers.

Now, after living here for 10 years, we have to relocate to another state for business reasons, but my annual vacation will be to Alaska.

I have never been as cold here as I was over Christmas in Dallas in 1996. I have never been attacked for where I am from as I was in the South. I have never experienced more friendliness from strangers that on the banks of the fishing waters in Alaska.

So, why Alaska? Because there are special people that live here, the winters are too harsh for the close minded As for the cold: spooning naked warms you up reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal quick!
