My home town, schaumburg Illinois. Great schools, alot of culture and stuff to do in chicago, a half hour away. Has 4 seasons, with alot of snow for the kids in winter. christmas actually feels like christmas there. alot of jobs with so much to see and do. You can't go wrong. If I had a full time salary, I would move back.

Thanks for all the great ideas folks...looks lik CO is the front runner according to many of you. Interesting as hubby is interviewing with a Ft. Collins based company right now. We will see what happens. If the worst case is we end up staying here....not such a bad thing. Thanks Again.

You can check out Livermore ca. (northern ca) home of Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. Great schools, wine country, biking, fishing, 5 dog parks, and a beautiful downtown. Home prices are from 300K-900k depending on how much you want. Regardless where you buy you are in a great community. The population is approximately 80k-95k

I like 4 seasons as well, but I prefer having mild winters and summers. Some of my favorites that have met that criteria are: Prescott, AZ; Albuquerque, NM; and Portland, OR. I think any town that's in a USDA Zone 7 is ideal. Where daytime highs are rarely over 100 nor below 40. You still get enough chill to grow fruit trees that require chilling (peaches, apples, cherries, etc) and some tender plants as well (fuzzy kiwi, artichokes, pomagranates, passion flowers, etc). I also tend to favor Western towns for their lack of humidity, a zone 7 in the Carolina's feels very different from a zone 7 in the West.

Phoenix area. Sprawling housing developments with those gravel yards, endless strip shopping areas, & the mostly ever present relentless heat + plentiful bad air days followed by a life time of skin cancer vigilance. Enjoy!
