Not very scientific, but the Rasmussen showed about 70% support. That number has been widely reported on national news, but far fewer outlets reported that, in the same poll, a majority of Arizonans were also concerned that the law might violate people's civil rights. I think about 100% wish the Feds had done their job securing the border and the people of AZ did not have to make a choice between their civil rights and their economic well-being and safety.

About time.

I agree! Finally, a leader with balls to stand up for the greater good of its state!

Maybe SHE should be leading the nation!

Arizona! the police state! As I said I will not visit your state and this law is going to cost you money in tourism and bad publicity. I guess you didn't learn from the MLK holiday debacle huh? We do know that racial profiling will occur and your loony legislature & Governor has turned the police in Arizona into the Gestapo!
I know there are sane Arizonans but this was not the way to go! Why do you keep voting in McCain if he waffles on immigration?

This past weeks killing of that unfortunate rancher seemed to be the final straw that broke the proverbial camel's back. Another thing made obvious to me is Arizona's top dog John McCain is first and foremost for John McCain. This fellow will do what he must to stay in office. By the grace of God he did not become our president. The virtual fence is IMO the one which exists between (most) Republicans and Democrats. As I look back I never remember so many divided on so many issues our country faces. I remember a level of discourse that while often acrimonious, also had plenty of compromises. I see much of the former and little of the latter these days. Does anyone else wonder about the future funding of entitlement programs in this country? Will be interesting for those aging toward reliance upon government entitlements, what with the fastest growing sectors of future taxpayers being non-white taxpayers. Does working toward a solution mean creating as much divisiveness as we can. African Americans have long memories about slavery in America. Let's see how long the memories are of the people whose families are torn asunder if bills like the one Governor Brewer signed actually amount to anything substantive. I'm guessing this bill will accomplish little other than create more fear, suspicion and distrust.

Well, it is certainly the one kind that Mr. Pearce and all his cronies are truly after. But, the fact is, you are correct in that anyone who looks like they came from somewhere else is ripe for being stopped. And anyone who thinks that people won't be stopped just for that (and perhaps with the use of some ruse to make it look like there was some other reason) is not being realistic.

What a disgusting pig, she should resign. I don't care how bad your problem is , you don't resort to 1950s style laws.
You are not discussing illegal Mexicans------------the per capita of that nation is ca. $13,500 a year. And obesity is now an issue SoB.

Hatians; OTOH; they are some truly poor people.........their per capita is 1 tenth of Mexico's.

if there not supposed to be here then they shouldnt be. i dont agree with many points of views from republicans but its clear that people who sneak into this country and take a job for way less then what its worth is hurting the people that are here already. they sneak into this country and take a construction job thats worth over 20 bucks an hour and do it for 7. americans cant afford to do a job for 7 bucks an hour because somebody who is not supposed to be here in the first place has 20 people living in a house and will work for nothing cause 20 people are paying rent.
