Metro Manila has 180 shopping malls not to include those Big Box type Shopping Warehouse like S&R Membership shopping (patterned to Walmart of America concept), Puregold, Suy Sing, etc around the metro.
I think Jakarta definitely wins over the PREMIUM LUXURY MARKET. Manila is no competition. It has an even smaller luxury market than Kuala Lumpur. Jakarta is only in competition with Singapore and probably Bangkok.
The future is brighter for Jakarta, while Manila will sunk into the deep sea if it does nothing.
And do you even know how many volcanoes are there in Java that makes it quiet dangerous location? ohh and there are more risk to typhoon to Manila other than the earthquake.

What about Fil Ams who visit the Ph on a average of 2x a yr? Those were BOLDS numbers so to speak, people who are earning USD 4000 a month in the states or even higher.

casinos are booming in m. manila, as those tycoon gamblers envisioned Bay area of M.Manila to be next to macau.
