There are places in Atlanta where only a fool would venture after dusk. But downtown is not one of them.

But I also get the feeling if you took a black person from the US with an average education/accent there wouldn't be a problem in the slightest.
Uh...I haven't been there but I wouldn't want to test it personally. Oprah has already failed that test TWICE (Hermes in Paris and a shop in Zurich, Switzerland). If I remember reading correctly, even Tina Turner has faced some discrimination...and she's no where near 'dark.' Just to be perceived as black is enough. Doesn't matter who you are, how much you have or where you come from, you are judged by some, based solely on your complexion. Wow. What a wonderful world we all live in.

I gotta agree! I was very aware of my surroundings when I lived there and I didn't want to end up as a lead in or support story on the Fox News ...

Those areas they mention are not dangerous per se but maybe you would not venture them late at night.

You go to some of Paris suburbs or in Marseille ,its very unsafe. So dangerous that police where riot gear most of the time.I don't know of any place like that in all of the U.S.
Not even Camden N.J.

For Atlanta was actually mild compared to what they said about the other cities.
Some are totally crazy:

Be wary in Times Square and at the Statue of Liberty, and don’t go to Harlem, the Bronx or Central Park at night.
Harlem is not unsafe that people should not go at night.

Chicago: Stay away from the West Side and anywhere south of 59th Street.
Way over blown.

Santa Monica?Really?

I would warm American citizens to steer clear of these areas too. !!!!! But who the heck are the French to issue wqarnings about Atlanta...have they been to Nice or Toulon lately ??? I live in Italy 20 miles from Nice and they should do a little House Cleaning of their own in Nice !!!!
