It's more of a comfort zone thing, he stayed in Idaho for many years and there was a Roberto's there... We'll have to try that .. thanks

NOT everyone... I grew up in Atlanta, then moved to San Diego as an adult. That's where I grew an addiction to the Mexican food there. And since being back in Atlanta, I can't seem to find any Mexican restaurants that even come close... Well......... There IS one on Cobb Parkway called Tacos La Villa.

It's not bad, and will probably land you in some public toilet somewhere. But so far, seems to be the best I can find around my area. It's no Cotixan.

In Atlanta, I really just give up and stick with Chipotle.

When I visited San Diego I went to Tijuana for Mexican food so I'm not familiar with those restaurants.

Here are some Mexican Restaurants around town that I think are worth a visit:
Taco Veloz
Mega Taco is good and cheap
Papasita's has good fajitas.
Chuy's - steak burritos
Tacos and Tequila

Try Caramba cafe. I dont know if its an -erto or any other kind of style, but it's a plug for a great place, and it even has a paleo menu - in the pencil factory lofts building.

Nuevo Laredo is my favorite.

This thread had me going to Taco Veloz for dinner tonight.

Los Bravos is my neighborhood joint. Get the pork tacos.

Place on Memorial across from the cometary is legit as well.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions, we're going to make our way through the list and bring some TUMS just in case. Also, for the others that remember -ertos... (hehe) There are several SanDiego carne asada recipes online.

Here's one that looks really likely to hit the spot:

gaga in the kitchen: Carne Asada French Fries

Beyond that apparently Roberto's uses tips instead of flank steak. That would explain the different meat experience!

Has anyone been to these places:

Bad Dog Taqueria
Willy's Mexicana Grill
Moe's Southwest Grill

Are any of them any good?

Never been to Bad Dog, but Willy's and Moe's are just fast food. I don't dislike them but it's once in a blue moon that I stop by. There are far more Moe's than Willy's in the metro but Willy's food tastes better. If you're looking for a fast food chain, you'd make out better at Chipolte.

A couple of suggestions for places you might like to try are Pappasito's (Marietta) and La Paz (Vinings).

Default Carne Asada Fries- Stockbridge,GA

Go to Garcias Carnecerias#2 5627 N Henry Blvd, Stockbridge, GA 30281. In the back there is a restaurant. Ask for Asada Con Papas. Born and raised in SE SD and I have struggled to find real "taco shop" style food. I told the cook what I wanted and he made it. I even googled it on my phone and showed him images. We named it and I told him I'd post a note online so people will finally know where to get Carne Asada fries in ATL. I did go next door to buy my own shredded cheddar cheese because all he had was the shredded white cheese. I have a pic as proof...it's the real deal SD carne asada fries. Promise.
