This is a discussion forum where people through out ideas, thoughts, and opinions. But we are not a jury and we are not a news agency. What we say here as individuals matters for naught. We are discussing this thing, mostly speculating, nothing more. So I would not get too worked up over what is said here.

The more conspiracy theories I read here, the more I think it was a major malfunction of some system in the plane.

Let's hope the Australians actually have located debris and that it allows them to clarify what happened. If it was a malfunction, well, there are a lot of those planes flying around and they need to know what happened.

If it was a malfunction, plane would be in the sea off Vietnam.

This thing flew a long ways from it's original path. The 777 is a very safe aircraft, only deaths were the 3 at SFO last year, which was pilot error.

I just hope they can recover the black boxes and useful data is on them.

Planes have flown for hours with everyone dead inside due to a malfunction.

One US aircraft was already on the scene hours ago. Three more are on the way. This is for real. After evaluating data of the last ping it's a relative small area to search. Any floating debris in this area would be rare as it's far from any shipping routes. Any debris clustered in those rough seas would have been dispersed quickly. Too many coincidences.

"(Running) amok" is a Malaysian word to describe sudden suicidal mayhem. Guess 'Flying amok' will be the new phrase when all the puzzle pieces come together.

I watched the press conference a bit ago. They won't commit to what they saw (one piece 78 feet long, a smaller piece, and a "debris field" but they are sure enough to call out everybody. Four jets, and ships on the way.

They said in the briefing that it was very near the area that U.S. NTSB asked them to search satellite images for.

The area they are searching now has the lowest ship density the plane could have reached. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._red_black.png Plus some of the deepest ocean.

I'm hopeful this is for real. We'll know for sure soon, since Australia doesn't try to cover up and delay announcements of bad news as much as the US does (when there is a whiff of terrorism). I still believe it was hijacked by both pilots, as a part of a terrorist plot, for unknown and probably dumb reasons.

About 4,000m average. But could drop to 6,000m in the vicinity the debris was spotted. TITANIC wreck is at 4,000m, so you know what kind of equipment will be needed just to go down there.
