I've heard of people getting tickets for speeding on a bike as well, but usually it's on LSU's campus. I'm not sure who actually takes the time to clock a bicycle though. I don't think I ever got mine up over about 30-32 as a teen and that was riding down the levee (ferry landing) as fast as I could. I guess since you're technically supposed to be going slow riding up or down a levee road, I was speeding as well.

Cars can't even get down the road without hitting each other, then we put motorcycles out there, then joggers and bicycles.Try going down 3rd street on Tuesday nights now, that is now a joggers trail .I will not take this out on the cycle world but Some of You long time riders might start a safety course ,There are probably already some .Vote NO on Sat.

I do like Austin's approach where they resurface and widen all major roads as they come up for refurbishing in their schedule. Then the drivers get a resurfaced road and the cyclists get a dedicated lane to ride, and I guess pedestrians get a new or rebuilt sidewalk. It's a win-win and you're going to use the tax dollars anyway. Of course, we have roads here that wouldn't be the easiest to widen, but it's definitely possible on most. We're talking 3-6 feet here at the most. It would be a great way to establish safe routes for cyclists here while redoing roads. I'm sure Austin isn't the only place doing this, but it's the one I'm aware of and seen in action.
But I've been saying it for years and it's never happened here, and many politicians and citizens could care less, so I guess it's just falling on deaf ears. There's no denying however that the cycling population is growing fast here. Hopefully the number of accidents doesn't increase as rapidly.

Just for information, I have no problem blowing my horn at cyclists who aren't doing what I think they should be (i.e. riding opposite traffic, riding in the middle of the road, cutting across intersections or between cars, etc). I heard of a case where a kid robbed a lady walking around the city park lakes and then rode away on his bike. I bet I would have kicked that bike out from under him as he left.

There are many streets where six additional feet would require the relocation of utilities , fire hydrants , sidewalks , etc . A huge waste of tax dollars .

Notice that I recognized that. Of course if you're refurbishing roads and/or intersections where that is required anyway (i.e. some Green Light Program projects or sewer drainage restructuring if it ever happens), what's the problem?
But if that's the sentiment, then have fun dodging the cyclists because they aren't going anywhere.

Then name some . What streets in Baton Rouge fit that criteria ? Which ones are being " refurbished " that have the luxury of additional available right of way ? Do you know of any? Moderator cut: language

And BTW , I'm not dodging anybody . They are dodging me . I'm bigger .

Burbank - 4 laned one side has a shoulder. Long stretch of new road.
Staring when they build the new section along with rebuilding the section between Highland and Perkins.
Perkins. There's a good one. (widening)
Siegen from Highland to Perkins when they rebuild that one.
Highland from Blue Bayou to Airline. (widening)
North Blvd between I-110 to N. 19th. (widening and bridge)
Blount Rd. (widening)
Lee Drive if and when they redo it.
Bluebonnet from I-10 to Airline. (new road)
Millerville (widening)
Old Hammond (widening)
And those are only the ones that I think were/are good candidates so I'm sure there are more for an engineer to figure out.

Do you just like being an *** about everything in the world or just things that you consider to be progressive or dare I say it... "liberal"? I'm not saying I have the solutions, but jeez you're just such an *** about everything on here. You feel you have to critic everything that you don't like. We all hear you screaming but I for one am honestly tired of it and don't care anymore. You do what you got to do and I'll do what I got to do. Have a great day!
