Is there still a Winchell's donut shop? I remember one in Covina, or Glendora.......somewhere around there........with a huge donut out front.

There's a bunch of them, including one on Azuza in Covina.

there was one in both places but the really awesome donuts were at Fosters in Glendora and I think it is still there.

Thanks, we ate there about 4 or 5 years ago. Next spring we are taking a cruise out of L.A and plan on returning a day or two early. What do we want to do? Hit some of the old eateries. Of course that will be one.

Others I am sure are gone: Van De Kanps on San Fernado Road. There was a place in Monrovia, Leroys that is probably still there and a place in Highland Park, right on Fig, it had been there for years, great for breakfast but I can't remember the name of it..

When I was just a kid, sometimes on Sunday night dad would drive to Phillipes and bring back sandwhiches for us, plus pickled pigs feet for he and mom. We lived in Eagle Rock then.

Van de Kamps, all gone.

Le Roy's The Original is still there on Huntington in Monrovia.

Don't forget about The Pantry on Fig, Downtown, or Clifton's on Broadway.

Buffy's, which was right beside the 5 down around Tustin or Irvine, was a great place to eat. It was owned by the parents of the little girl who played the character Buffy on the TV show "Family Affair."

I think it's gone now, isn't it?

It was off the Southbound 5 at Avery Parkway, right where San Juan Capistrano becomes Mission Viejo.

Long gone. Replaced by a motel and a corporate fast food joint.

I grew up down there, in fact I remember when they built the place, and that's the first I've ever heard of the Family Affair girl connection.

I can't verify the authenticity of my statement. It's just what I was told about the place. Presumably, they opened it after their daughter died young of a drug over-dose or named it in memory of her.

thanks, of course the Pantry, I knew that and Cliftons were still there. thanks for letting us know about LeRoys. I thought they would be there. I have found many mom and pop diner type places wherever we have lived but there is only one Le Roys.

Do you mean Donut Man on Route 66? Still there and the best donuts you have EVER had. Supposedly Elvis Presley used to send his bodyguard there to pick up jelly donuts: Donut Man - Glendora, CA. 91740 - Reviews & Reservations - The Guide
