Hi everyone-

We will be moving to the Charleston area next month and I am trying to narrow down the neighborhoods that we want to rent in. We are looking to rent a single family home no more than $1500/month, 3 bedrooms, small but fenced yard, and most importantly in a safe and family friendly neighborhood as we have a 2 1/2 year old. My husband will be working in North Charleston so commuting time is a factor, but we are coming from Chicago so a 30 minute commute is ok. I have been looking at mostly the Summerville and surrounding areas. We also want the convenience of stores (grocery, shopping, etc.) close by. We would also like a pool in the neighborhood and playground. Some of the subdivisions I have been looking at are:

Westcott Plantation
The Reserve at Eagle Run
Highwoods Plantation
Buckshire
Arbor Oaks
Bridges of Summerville
Ashborough
Summer Trace
Madison Ridge
Bellwood
Summer Park

Any thoughts you have on these subdivisions (or others) would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Hello Same situation here, we wanted to rent a home but i feel more secure with a complex, So we decided to go with avana wescott plantation, a three bedroom 1280 it has a gym, pool, club house and playgrounds. The elementary school is next door and a daycare a 3 minute walk. A supercenter Walmart is five minutes down the road. Plus a Harris Teeter supermarket is opening in january 2014, its a three minute drive. WE MOVE IN NEXT MONTH, BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS..
BEST WISHES

Wescott is a good call for your needs. Especially if your husband is commuting N. Chas. The commute down Dorchester because of Boeing is brutal. On the upside of Wescott, it gets you in a good Elementary School with pool and parks and very convenient shopping within minutes. The golf course at Wescott is very enjoyable too!

Thank you so much for your responses! Can anyone tell me if there are any major differences in the different Westcott neighborhoods (i.e. Westcott Plantation v The Farm). Is pool access different? Anything significant I need to know?

Thanks so much!

There are significant differences in the many subsections. Some have no amenities whatsoever.
