Was at both stores today for work. They had nearly identical layouts from what I could tell. Seemed like the Fort Mill store was a bit busier, but overall it was a very large crowd at both locations especially considering 2 stores not that far apart were opening on the same day.
I'm curious what some of those that were critical of Publix think of it if they were able to make it over. I don't think they really went much above and beyond their typical stores (not that that's a bad thing), so in my opinion these stores are probably fairly typical of what you'd see in other places, just newer obviously. I will say one thing I don't like about Publix is their one-way parking lots, hate those things!
It looks like Publix isn't trying to beat Harris Teeter on price. Their prices were very similar to Harris Teeter, except that Teeter runs VIC specials that allow for stocking up.
The bakery department looks like it will beat the heck out of the La Brea bread that Harris Teeter carries.
I think that I could live the rest of my life very happily if I never saw another olive bar in a store.
I like that you don't need to have another "card" to get the sale prices at the store. If you shop there you get the sale price, which is how it should be all over, imo.
Some of their prices seemed better and some seemed the same, the sale items were a great deal for the most part. I just did a quick run-through, but it seemed fine. The bakery was crowded and it was 8pm
The HTs in Florida (I think there is also one in Ponte Vedra Beach) are not the same as the typical HT is here. They are much more high-end, more like the "Taj Ma Teeter" in Southpark than the ones near my house in Huntersville.
Only one H-T is left in FL, in Fernandina Beach, and I believe it's barely hanging on.
I've yet to see anyone mention this: News that Publix has finally committed to NC:
That is indisputable, along with the fact that you somehow found the topic interesting enough to read and comment on the thread.
I was in Charlotte last week and found it amusing that it was A1 stuff that this place opened. Then again, after a trip to Harris Teeter, I'm thinking Publix might actually take some business from them.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this on this post. I have read most of it, but haven't been through the last pages. We went to Publix in Indian Land a couple of days ago to see the new store. I absolutely loved it. The one thing that makes it stand out from other grocery stores is the, I guess you call them baggers, taking your groceries to your car for you. I had forgotten about that charm. I find that very reassuring in the time we live in. It's nice to have a second person escort you to your car. I think it might prevent being carjacked or robbed in a parking lot. It was very comforting when my children were in car seats and they were occupying my thoughts. At least someone else was with me to watch my back.

That is funny. They don't even do that in Florida (home of Publix) unless specifically requested.
bindibadji. I am from Florida. I have been in NC for five years. I guess that's why I forgot. They always did it for me, unless I was carrying one bag and told them not to.

They tried that with me. I had to tell them no several times, and got a weird look. i can handle my own groceries thankyouverymuch.

I lived in Clearwater, Jacksonville, and Panama City. I guess the populations are so much younger in northern Florida and don't need as much help with the exception of Clearwater. I believe that it is a good practice. Hopefully they aren't doing it because they are so new.
