I currently live in CT, but I've been looking to relocate to the Charlotte area for a while now. I recently found an opportunity to transfer to another division within the company that I currently work for. This other division is located in Lincolnton. The problem is that I know nothing about Lincolnton other than its roughly 45 minutes from Charlotte.

I've been to Charlotte many times and I'm familiar with alot of the areas and would still want to live somewhere close to the city or at least on the outskirts of the city. Is this possible, when working in Lincolnton? Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to live?

We are a family of three, I have a wife and 4 yr old son so schools and safety are also going to be a major factor going forward.

Look in Kings Mountain, on the Cleveland County side, Cramerton, or Belmont. Also look in Lincoln County in areas zoned to North Lincoln High School. Based on this years's rankings, the 2 top high schools west of Charlotte are North Lincoln HS & Kings Mountain HS. A new high school is being built in Gaston County (school districts are by county) It will be Stephen Cramer HS & will be drawing from good elementary schools & a good middle school.

Look into Denver NC, the homes & subdivisions are relatively new. Lincoln County has one of the best schools in the area.
The town is newly developed as well and minutes from Lake Norman or Mt. Island Lake.
Highway 16 is also newly expanded and traffic is lighter than commuting from the interstates in rush hour.

You also will be near shopping & food options in nearby Huntersville & Cornelius.

Thanks for the great suggestions. If anyone has anymore ideas I will be more than glad to hear them.

My main objective is to be close enough to Charlotte to enjoy all of its amenities regularly while also limiting my communte to 30-40 mins.

Thanks again!

Please, look into Huntersville.

It is in Mecklenburg County (If you have been to Northlake, its similar to that area). Right off of 77 not too far from charlotte. ~15minutes from Concord Mills, Lake Norman (The town) is the next exit up. The area looks new and upscale (like Northlake minus the mall)

Also close to Lincolnton via West 73. Easy commute. I use to do it.

Huntersville is a great area, right by the lake (Lake Norman). It is the outskirts of Charlotte (It feels like Charlotte). And of all your options for an easy commute to Lincolnton, it's your only option to live in a place that feels like Charlotte.

Kings Mountain, Cramerton, Denver, nor Belmont have that same "charlotte" feel. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the insight! That "Charlotte Feel" is exactly what I'm looking for! I was concerned that by working in Lincolnton that there wouldn't be anywhere conveinently located to live with that "Charlotte Feel."

I appreciate your help and I will also take a closer look at Huntersville.

The only thing I can suggest is to rent first for at least year before buying. This will let you figure out the best area where you want to live. It will give you time to explore all the area's suggested.

This website ranks schools. The end of year test scores are a big part of the ranking.

Elementary North Carolina State Elementary Schools - NC School Rankings

High school North Carolina State High Schools - NC School Rankings

Enter school names at the bottom. You can get those from real estate listings & the Great Schools website.

We live in Huntersville and my wife works in Lincolnton and commutes daily.

The commute on NC 73 can be pretty tough, quite often a 50+ minute drive depending on traffic. It is a 2 lane road most of the way, and the speed limit is 50 mph for a good part of it.

Living in Denver would cut 15-20 minutes off this, probably better schools, and lower taxes. A little less urban than parts of Huntersville, but still a good area and close to both the Lake Norman communities, and an easy ride into Charlotte on NC 16 as previously mentioned.

50 minute drive?

It takes me 50 minutes from concord to Lincolnton. It always takes me 30 minutes from Lincolnton to Huntersville. I drive 5 miles over the speed limit. Mapquest has it clocked in at 36 minutes from downtown Lincolnton to Huntersville.
