Someone harrases and spits at me would no longer be vertical. Mentally ill, drunk or just being a jerk, it does not matter, your fair game..
Getting the mace is a good idea. I would definitely have a police report filed ASAP, just in case you run into him again and use the mace, they'll have the complaint on file.
uncgdad1, you and I must have the same luck. It seems no matter where I go around the country, I'm always the one that some drunken, crazed homeless guy zeroes in on and targets. I always just let it go.
Hello
I know you don't want to wait but I just purchased Triple(Mace, pepper spray& die marker from Mace Brand. I think it was Mace.com they got it to me in a jiff.
Okay, got the scare of my life today...while waiting for the Light Rail train today at the Arena stop to go southbound @ 2:00pm I was confronted by a very angry, billigerent black man, cursing and yelling at me. He came right up to me, spat twice at my feet and proceded to swear at me that he was going to rip my M_ _ _ _ _ _F_ _ _ _ _ head off.....what the Hell? I moved to another location of the platform about to hit the "emergency" help stantion, but the train arrived, I waited until he got on, I took the next one. I've only lived here for about 6 weeks, having moved from NJ, just outside of NYC, and in all my years going the NY, something like this never happened. I was really scared, and can bet the next time I will have a can of pepper spray in my hand....with that in mind, anyone out there know where to purchase pepper spray, not the internet, I want it now....
Sorry to hear about the incident, uncgdad1. Just in case you are not near a gun store, wanted to let you know that I once found some pepper spray at Kmart. I'm glad I read your post as it served to remind me to buy some more. I had to ditch mine out of my purse before flying recently. Again, sorry you had such a funky experience.
uncgdad, sounds like an isolated incident and I'm glad you were not injured. Pepper spray will not protect you unless you are educated on self defense skills and willing to use it. Pepper spray gives some people a false sense of security and ends up getting them hurt. Also, if you show spray you had better be prepared to use it because you could be escalating a dangerous situation.
The Army-Navy Surplus store on Independence Blvd. sells the pepper spray and stun guns. I believe they have one that is a foaming dye (no chemical that could potentially get on you because of wind, spit, skin contact with attacker, etc). The dye is supposed to last for quite a while, maybe a week or more (nice and embarassing, huh?).
They also sell extendable batons, which I carry. I have the 16" model and it is a nice thing to have just in case. Just don't let it get turned on you. It's a bone-breaker.
Good luck and be safe. And always be aware of your surroundings. I'm sure this will become more of an issue as the light rail moves on.
