I thought I did my due diligence with my real estate search
I was also mislead by my realtor into believing that my community was safe. Its very upsetting and annoying.
The kids ultimately lose with all this shuffling around. Those who say that we as parents should just get over it are out of touch with how the shuffling affects the kids.
Didn't you voluntarily shuffle your kids when you moved them 700 miles from LI? Now its a horrible crime they are going to a different school 4-5 miles away.

Hey NC Keith
Do you have kids that are being shuffled around?? I've met families who have been in Union County and this is the third time their children are being moved.
I knew I was moving 700 miles and that's why I don't want my kids shuffled again. They already did a big move. That was difficult enough.
Thanks for your sarcastic response.

I'm guessing that anyone unfamiliar with the Greater Booger Branch Area isn't a fan of The Big Show.

As a matter of fact yes. At last count all kids will move schools a minimum of 3 times. From home to primary, primary to middle and middle to High School. Throw in a number of moves for job changes or quality of life moves and I would venture the majority of kids in UC have moved schools quite a bit. I'm guessing the handwringing is the construct of neurotic parents.

Thanks for the unnecessary explanation of how children progress from elementary school to ms to hs.

This specific family's children started at Marvin then moved to Weddington now are in Cuthbertson.
Not the same type of movement.

Never said there are no alternatives, only that lacking funds to build and with space available in some schools, that is how it has been done in the past. Alternatives to redistricting have been discussed for several hundred pages on the previous thread. Many ideas have been floated, but as others have recently posted, this is what we can afford right now. The court judgement will allow for repairs and improvements to to be made in existing schools. Taxes are finally going up from the last bond referendum hopefully to pay down debt incurred at that time, and there will certainly be another referendum coming in a few years to build more schools.
re: The Ballot Box-- I wish the folks who are residents in the towns and therefore have a vote would hold their local governments more accountable. Those of us without a vote still have to foot the bills as the building permits are being handed out.

That sums it all up right there. If property values fell in some areas (which I'm not convinced they did), it was due to the self-fulfilling prophecies of hysteric homeowners.

IMO....the redistricting will not end as long as developers can use higher ranking schools to sell their new sub division for higher values then switch out once everything is sold.

I'm with Mikey here. I'm not sure what subdivision you can be talking about but I'm easily confused. I'm not sure any subdivision has gone Marvin, Weddington, Cuthbertson because nobody got moved from Weddington to Cuthbertson this time. Weddington, Marvin, Cuthbertson maybe but even then only Valhalla would have a real problem because they got shafted. If you are in Barrington, I'm not sure you paid a premium to be in "Marvin".

Marvin to Weddington
Chatsworth
Meadows
Providence Glen
Therrell Farms
Victoria Lake
Weddington Chase
Weddington Forest

Marvin to Cuthbertson
Barrington
Valhalla

Betty, you make a lot of sense. I don't live in Union County but these threads have been instructional for me. It has explained to me why I keep hearing citizens & politicians west of Charlotte say "We don't want to turn into Union County. ". There's no reason or excuse for posters to have been so rude to you.

I'd almost feel sorry for people who bought a year or two ago but they had alternatives. They decided to buy prestige. At least that's how it looks to me.

South, I can only hope for your sake that your BOE is better than the train wreck in Union County
