I have asked this before . . . but maybe someone has some insight today . . . why are people who haven't even moved here so insulted when we tell them not to come without a job? I don't get it. My son is even applying for work in other states b/c his college advisors and chair of dept have told him the job opps are just not here in NC right now. He believes them - he is not insulted, LOL. He is grateful they are being straightforward with him (and he is in healthcare, btw, the one area that people like to say still has openings).
So why are people getting insulted and stating crazy stuff like we don't like outsiders here - or - we don't want the competition from newcomers? I find that so strange. I would WANT to know the truth b/f I came here and got myself into a mess without a job. Do people ask questions and just get angry if they don't get the answer they wanted or what?
I don't know the answer to this question, Ani. Like you, I would want to know how things really area in any area before I would make the move. Sometimes it seems that if the locals don't provide the "right" answers to the questions asked, then they are perceived as mean, vicious, not welcoming of newcomers, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Quite frankly, it makes me less likely to want to participate in the discussion and contribute something valuable if what I post is simply viewed as a negative.

I'v been thinking about that as well. Here are a couple of possible reasons, emphasis on "possible" :
1) Like the rope at the front door at a hot disco. Hey you can't come in. So, the more that's told to a person the harder they try to get in.
Should be called the Dope a Rope theory.
2) People don't want to listen to authority. On our board "rep" is authority.
3) Nobody trusts anybody anymore. So what we say is not taken as gospel. It's just a sign of the times. That's all. The flip side of that is getting good and useful advise and opinions like I have for a couple of years. I have literally invested, bought, sold etc. in CLT b/c of some of the direction I rec'd on this forum. I'm suspicious, but I listen and throw out the chaff.
4) People have nothing better to do with their fingers other than BS all day and play games.
SMC . . . CTRI . . . John . . . that makes sense - what all of you said. And CTRI - I am getting where I just don't feel like sharing info even when I feel I could be helping b/c of the assaults. I have been the target of some insulting statements in the last 48 hours and I thought - eh? Why bother . . .
Working on a mental health article about depression, marital discord, financial stress due to job loss, LOL. I am just gonna stay in my corner and deal w/ the facts of what happens when people lives are impacted by job loss (or inability to find a job). I have genuine concern about how it affects our community . . . and best I just write about it and get PAID for it cause I sho nuff ain't making any money off posting info here!!!
Well...I'm working tonight & tomorrow at Knight's Stadium....will probably throw some stuff on the grill on Sun. & maybe hangout with my cousin or the neighbors. Do some work around the house...nothing exciting.
Maybe I'll make some canollis & pizzelles for some people I know...
